ATTENDANCE MATTERS! Every Student Here, Everyday!

Encouraging regular school attendance is one of the most powerful ways you can prepare your child for success—both in school and in life. When you make school attendance a priority, you help your child get better grades, develop healthy life habits, avoid dangerous behavior and have a better chance of graduating from high school.

When students are absent for fewer days, their grades and reading skills often improve—even among those students who are struggling in school. Students who attend school regularly also feel more connected to their community, develop important social skills and friendships, and are significantly more likely to graduate from high school, setting them up for a strong future.

But when kids are absent for an average of just two days of school per month—even when the absences are excused– it can have a negative impact. Please be sure your child is here everyday!

Hello Webster Community,

Welcome back!!! I hope you had a well-rested summer break. Webster staff members have been hard at work preparing for a rigorous classroom experience. I would like to welcome all our new families, and I hope that you will feel at home here at Webster.

Not only are academics important at Webster; attendance is crucial when it comes to showing your Wildcat PRIDE. Our attendance goal last year was 96.5%. However, our average attendance for the 2016-2017 school year was 95.6%. With hard work and dedication, we will be able to meet our attendance goal this year.

During the month of August, you received a meal application from the Long Beach Unified School District. Even if you do not qualify and do not want to apply for meal benefits, please list your child’s name, the school name, write “decline to apply” on the application and turn it in by October 31. This is important to assist us in determining which households to contact in order to ensure that all who qualify for free or reduced meals have access to the program.

At Webster, student and traffic safety is also a top priority. During the months of September and October, Ms. Hall (the school counselor) and I will meet with all students to review the rules and expectations at Webster. All students must follow all instructions of the Webster staff at all times. Also, safe driving around our school improves the safety of all children, including yours. Please keep in mind the following safety rules:

● When dropping off your child, pull to the curb safely, have your child exit carefully and depart immediately.

● Please yield to pedestrians crossing in a crosswalk.

● Pedestrians must use marked crosswalks to cross the street.

● Do not block crosswalks, driveways, red zones, or fire hydrants.

● Please DO NOT STOP in through traffic lanes and DO NOT DOUBLE PARK.

We all must do our part to ensure the safety of all students.

Mrs. Forrester

Traffic Safety

As we all know traffic is a major concern around our school, especially the ten minutes before the start of the school day.  One solution is to drop off your child closer to 8:40 a.m. when traffic is still light. As a reminder, follow all traffic rules. Do not double-park, stop in through lanes of traffic, or make illegal U turns. Please encourage students to use the cross walk. If you find yourself in the middle of a traffic jam, be patient and alert to children crossing the street.
